I`m The Bread Of Life

                                                                     (John 6:35)

According to The Holy Bible this phrase spreads out a various dimension of meanings within itself,  The phrase 'I`m the bread of life' is a self-declaration of Jesus Christ about his nature and role in providing spiritual nourishment and eternal life to those who believe in him. In John chapter 6 verses 1-14 we could see the instances where Jesus had performed a miracle where he had fed five thousand people with  five bread and his disciples and the crowd became amazed by his performance and they started to praise him and even decided to make him the king ,there john chapter 6 verses 15 we could see that ‘’Jesus knew that they were about to come and seize him in order to make him the king by force, so he went off again to the hills by himself’’. From this we could understand how does Jesus look upon earthly desires and how he not got easy attracted to it  because it was a clear-cut chance for him to become the king  of the people, but Jesus refuses it and went up to the hills to pray, this also teaches us the lessons of how to be humbled in front of the world and how the lord himself would raise us up.

What kind of  life is mentioned here , my dear friends as we all know , the interpretation of life according to the holy bible is quite confirming and reassuring one because as we take john chapter 6 as a whole we could see that Jesus was not only teaching the crowd about the good life lessons a human being should acquire in his or her life , here Jesus was making them prepare to live a life which was awaiting for them in the eternal world where the real life begins and the life  mentioned here is about the after life . In john chapter 6 towards the end we could see that after the miracle the whole crowd and the disciples had set out to search Jesus and when they found him, he replied to them that, you people had gathered her not because of my words but the bread I have given to you and in that instance Jesus made the declaration that, ’I`m the bread of life and whoever eats me would never starve for the rest of the life. Jesus already knew that, the bread which he had multiplied for them would only satisfy their temporary hunger therefore he himself offered to them as the bread of life.

Secondly what is the significance of bread and why does Jesus particularly choose bread as an example in the phrase. Here we could see that how much  does a piece of bread had made influence upon the crowd and that is because bread was a common food at the time of Jesus and it was made with much care and love, the process of making bread requires patience and this patience leads to love and thus with lot of love the bread is made, also the bread had a deep connection with each maker and this shows the true love of a baker and  humanity. Also, the bread had a significant role in the life of Jews because during the time of Passover the Jews used this bread to conduct the Passover festival. Therefore, bread had an important role in the life of people. By talking this as an account Jesus used the metaphor of bread to communicate with the people. From this we could understand that Jesus`s teachings were more liable and simpler where the ordinary people could easy understand and gain its true meaning. The role of Christ`s parables and phrases where deep rooted into the lives of the ordinary people thus each and every word of Christ was like a true gem for them.

Throughout the holy bible we could see that Jesus never referred him to as a dictator or leader or king he was always portrayed himself as a teacher and a humble servant of the Holy Father. The crowd was totally blinded by the miracle done by the Jesus because according to them bread was a valuable and rich food and Jesus had given it to them abundantly without any effort therefore they all got impressed by it , while seeing their excitement Jesus said to them that, john chapter 6 verses 27 ,’’do not work for the food that goes bad instead work for the food that lasts for eternal life.’’  This moment was like an eye opener for the crowd because Jesus had just said a statement which they had never heard and the truth they have never experienced. Even though after hearing this  the people were not at all aware about what Jesus had said thus, they had asked him to give them this bread daily, there Jesus had given them the ultimate truth in john chapter 6 verses 35 that, I`m the bread of life, he who comes to me never be hungry and he who believes in me never go thirsty.’’

Third we could look on the statement which Jesus had used here as the term ‘I am’. In the Old Testament, God revealed His name to Moses: “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you’” Exodus 3:14. Thus, in Judaism, “I AM” is unquestionably understood as a name for God. Whenever Jesus made an “I am” statement in which He claimed attributes of deity, He was identifying Himself as God. And that is why the historians mentions Jesus Christ’s nature as miaphysitism, which means 'one nature' in Greek, is a Christological doctrine holding that Jesus Christ has a single, unified nature that is both fully divine and fully human. But the people were not ready to fully capture the depth of him therefore we could see in the verses 41 that, people began to question his family and started to criticize his father’s job due to his words and they were not ready to accept his words because they couldn’t fully grasp the meaning of the words which he had spoken to them , that is why Jesus told them at the very beginning that they have came to him not because of his miracle or words , but due to the bread which he had given to them. The reason why Jesus used such hard metaphors was because he knew that if he had explained it to the people openly it would be like a backfiring for himself because among the crowd there were pharisees and saduces to criticize him therefore Jesus took such metaphors to convey his messages. And due to his hard metaphors many of the his followers had left him moved out while seeing this Jesus asked his twelve disciples that whether they are also planning to leave from him, thus  Simon peter had replied that, in john chapter 6 verse 66, to whom does we go other than you my lord and we truly believe in you that you are the only son of god and you are the true savior for us. This kind faith was the result of Jesus`s teachings and this kind of faith should we acquire in our spiritual life. The unwavering and stubborn faith in lord.

Therefore, my dear friends from this single phrase we get to know that, the whole earthly desires could not satisfy us and such those entertainments wont last till the end but on the other hand in lord we are promised with a life time happiness and joy.

Thank you.
